The best movie trailers are the ones that actually tease you. That make you need to see a film to find out what it’s actually all about. The new trailer for the sci-fi drama “Arrival” fits that bill.

Amy Adams stars as expert linguist Louise Banks, who is “on the top of everyone’s lists when it comes to translations.” In this case, she must make contact with whatever it is that’s aboard alien spacecrafts that have touched down across the planet.

The “whatever it is” is key, because we don’t get to see who or what Adams’ character has to communicate with. She rises into a pod-like craft hovering above the ground and as the trailer closes, we hear a Chewbacca-style moan, from something, and see Adams gasp behind the protective suit she’s wearing.

Directed by Denis Villeneuve (“Sicario,” “Prisoners”) and co-starring Jeremy Renner and Forrest Whitaker, the description for “Arrival” on YouTube says “mankind teeters on the verge of global war, Banks and the team race against time for answers — and to find them, she will take a chance that could threaten her life, and quite possibly humanity.”

The film opens in theaters Nov. 11.
