Amazon this morning released a teaser video for what the company calls its first-ever Super Bowl ad, promoting the Amazon Echo smart speaker and the built-in Alexa voice-enabled virtual assistant.
The teaser video (above) features actor Alec Baldwin planning a Super Bowl party with Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino, getting some help from Alexa in the process.
The decision to feature Alexa and Echo in the company’s first Super Bowl ad is another sign of the focus that Amazon has been putting on its smart speaker and virtual assistant. Amazon has been steadily adding features to Alexa, and a recent report said it’s working on a portable version of the Echo — a possible first step toward another foray into the smartphone market for the company.
