If you’ve got some great shots of the new giant pontoons for the SR 520 floating bridge, the Washington Department of Transportation would like to see them.

WSDOT announced the photo contest due to the number of awesome shots they’ve been seeing of the “bridge’s giant pontoons floating through the Lake Washington Ship Canal.” And now they want you to tweet up to three of your best photos (no more) of the bridge’s new pontoons to @wsdot_520 with the hashtag #520Pontoon. The floating bridge — traveled each day by thousands of techies — is one of the main arteries connecting Seattle to Redmond, Kirkland and Bellevue.

The bridge project is not only updating the 520, but also adding HOV lanes, and a bike and pedestrian path. It is set to be open by the spring of 2016.

There are some rules: The WSDOT only wants to see pictures of pontoons from the new SR 520 project — not old pontoon shots — and any photos going back to 2012 and the first pontoons are eligible. Other rules include, per WSDOT:

  • Take the photo yourself and have the rights to submit it.
  • Captions will not help your chances, “no matter how witty or zeitgeist-y.”
  • Don’t break laws or do anything dangerous to get pictures, including “driving while photographing or tweeting.”
  • You must be at least 18 years old to enter.
  • You must include the hashtag #520Pontoon to enter. Other methods of delivery outside of tweeting them with the hashtag (email, Twitter direct message, etc.) will not be considered.

Hurry, you must tweet your photo by next Monday, April 13 by noon. Five winners will be invited for a tour of the new bridge site. The winning pictures will also be posted on the WSDOT’s site for “immortal glory.”

Good luck!
