uber-logoTwo Uber managers were taken into custody today in France for allegedly operating an illegal taxi business.

Prosecutors told BBC that the Uber employees are being questioned for “illicit activity.” TechCrunch reported that the Uber France CEO and Uber Europe GM were both detained.

The arrests took place less than a week after cab drivers engaged in violent protests in Paris against Uber’s low-cost service in France, UberPop.

French officials have investigated Uber’s business since last year and deemed the service illegal, though Uber continues to operate there until the courts make a final decision in September. Authorities, which raided Uber’s office in Paris this past March, have asked 200 extra staff to patrol the streets and find UberPop drivers.

In other Uber-related news, Bloomberg Business reported today that some drivers are scamming the company in China.
