Intuit has put a halt to all e-filing of state tax returns while it investigates tax fraud concerns. Intuit says it is “temporarily pausing” transmission of state returns, effective as of February 5th, while it works with states on “an increase in suspicious filings and attempts by criminals to use stolen identity information to file fraudulent state tax returns and claim tax refunds.”

Intuit says it doesn’t believe there has been a security breach of its own systems, and will work with individual states to turn transmission of returns back on. Federal tax return e-filing is not affected.
