Hoverboards. One of those technologies we were promised a long time ago that never really seemed to deliver.

Until maybe now.

Canadian Catalin Alexandru Duru built this prototype and tested it over Lake Ouareau in Quebec. There is no doubt that his hoverboard really hovers as he clearly is well above the water, and he obliterates the previous Guinness World Record for hoverboard travel. That record was about 164 feet. He goes over 905 feet.

Sure, it looks a little big and gangly now, but if this is any indication of what’s possible, lightweight, recreational hoverboards may not be far away, so all our Back to the Future fantasies can come true.
