One of the most contentious issues in Seattle sports over the past few months has been the standoff between Seattle Seahawks strong safety Kam Chancellor and the team’s front office.

Chancellor, as was well reported, returned to the Seahawks on Sept. 23 after a lengthy holdout in which the Pro-Bowler requested a contract restructuring, despite the fact that he had signed a $28 million four-year extension after the 2012 season.

The issue certainly will re-surface again after Chancellor made the game-saving play on the one-yard line Monday night, forcing a fumble just as the Detroit Lions appeared poised for the upset.

In a post-game interview, Chancellor was responding to questions in a matter-of-fact manner — noting that “we fight until it’s over” — when an rambunctious Michael Bennett interjected.

“Pay him! Pay him! Paul Allen is the 17th richest man in the world. Pay him,” said Bennett, as he walked away, referencing the Microsoft co-founder and Seahawks owner.

Ironically, when K.J. Wright intentionally batted the ball out of the end zone after the Kam Chancellor hit, it should have resulted in a foul against the Seahawks, meaning that the Lions should have received the ball on the 6-inch line with just seconds to play.

The coach for the Detroit Lions, Jim Caldwell, said about the blown call: “there’s nothing you can do about it” and “we’re not going to cry about it.”
