It’s one of the most wonderful times of the year if you love Nordstrom — the store’s annual Anniversary Sale.

To celebrate the event, Nordstrom is taking a very digital-savvy approach. They installed a gigantic Instagram post on the top of the flagship store downtown.

The best part? They strapped an iPhone to a drone to capture the action and put it on Periscope. Nordstrom told us that this is one of the first permitted drone projects in the city. Check out their drone to the right.

The faux Instagram is about 14,000 square-feet and features a dress in an Instagram feed, complete with a 25-foot-long hanger. The dress is a representation of a leopard number that is actually on sale.

Nordstrom is making a huge digital push as it looks to attract younger shoppers and compete with Seattle neighbor Amazon.com, which is expanding into the fashion world.

Here are more fun factoids, courtesy of Nordstrom: The “dress” uses about 400 yards of fabric (a typical dress uses about one yard). If the installation were vertical it would be 15 stories high.

Here’s a photo, which shows a “real” dress and hanger!

After Nordstrom is done with the installation, they’re donating the material to Seattle Goodwill, which will turn it into 1,000 reusable bags available via area Goodwill stores.

Oh, and that Anniversary Sale starts this Friday at 7 a.m. Hurry, though, all the merch goes back to regular prices on Aug. 3.
