The Emmy nominations were released this morning, and HBO is king with 126 nominations, including 24 nods for the most-nominated series Game of Thrones.
As a relative newbie, Amazon Instant Video racked up 12 nominations, a decent showing that definitely put it ahead of more established networks.
Amazon’s award-winning hit Transparent helped Amazon grab most of that Emmy love with 11 nominations, including one for Outstanding Comedy Series and Jeffrey Tambor for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.
Yesterday, we wrote about Amazon’s big cover story in the Hollywood Reporter and its plans to become a power player in entertainment, including launching feature films in theaters.
In other geeky shows news, Orphan Black‘s Tatiana Maslany snagged a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.
According to the Academy, over half of the nominees in the four lead performer categories are first-time nominees or from a new series, including Tambor and Maslany.
Also of note? The Television Academy announced a 60 percent “increase in the number of women writers and directors nominated in the comedy, drama and longform categories since 2014.”
The Emmy Awards air on Fox Sept. 20.
