It might be impossible to believe this casting: Funny guy Paul Rudd as a superhero?
You bet. In Marvel’s Ant Man, Rudd finally gets to leave his Everyman persona behind. Once Ant Man, aka Scott Lang, dons the special suit, he can shrink down to ant-size as his strength intensifies.
In the new film, Dr. Hank Pym, played by Michael Douglas, recruits Scott to help him fight bad guy Yellowjacket. This trailer gives an extended look at the transformation, including this gem of an exchange between Douglas and Rudd:
“My days of breaking into places and stealing stuff are over,” Rudd tells Douglas when he’s asked if he believes in redemption.
“I want you to break into a place and steal stuff,” Douglas responds.
“Makes sense,” Rudd says.
These two actors, filled with charm and wit, have always delighted. It’ll be great to see them together in a superhero flick. Ant Man is out July 17.
