Facebook debuted a new app today called Moments that allows a group of friends to all post photos to a shared, private album. The free app for iOS or Android makes it easy to share all the photos taken at an event in one hub, instead of across multiple user accounts.

Users can share photos to the album based on time, location and who is in the photos, using the power of Facebook’s social graph to identify faces and events.

For example, if you and a group of friends go to a birthday dinner at a fancy restaurant, you all can share your photos on Moments to easily keep them in one spot. Instead of making sure the waiter takes the group picture with each person’s phone, he can just take it once and it’s easily shared with everyone in the photo.

No more hounding friends to post that shot of you or uploading every photo to an album that all your Facebook friends can see (and your aunt will definitely comment on).

The new app was developed by Creative Labs, the same Facebook team that built Paper, Rooms and the Snapchat-like Slingshot.
