Star_Wars_Mixed_Reality_Test_-_YouTubeA long-held fantasy for geeks everywhere may soon become a reality — augmented reality, that is. A new video, released by stealthy mixed reality company Trixi Studios, lets users experience first-hand what it’s like to fight with Star Wars rebels.

Viewers fight stormtroopers, break through walls, and shoot lasers alongside adorable new droid on the block BB-8. But it’s not a video game: The scenes were recorded on a tablet in real physical settings. Trixi Studios is careful to note that the test footage “does not demonstrate an actual product in development; it is just to show the possibilities of available Mixed Reality technology.”

That being said, the video is a good indicator of what to expect in the near future. Disney, which owns the Star Wars franchise, recently announced a partnership with Google to create VR experiences with Google Cardboard. The footage from Trixi Studios was also created with Google tools, specifically the Android development kit Project Tango.

Watch the video below, and may the force be with you.
