Seattle startup Venuelabs today unveiled AboutLocal, a new service that helps merchants listen to what is being said about them on social channels. A free version allows merchants to track activity on Instagram, while retailers can spend $20 per month to add services such as Google+ Local, Foursquare, Yahoo, Facebook and Urbanspoon. Merchants receive an alert when a customer comments on the business — say complaining about a dirty restroom or poor customer service. To date, Venuelabs has focused its social listening service on larger customers such as Red Robin, Subway, Tommy Bahama and Albertson’s.
