microvision-logo2Shares of MicroVision jumped more than 15 percent in early morning trading after the Redmond company inked a deal with shipping giant UPS. MicroVision said that UPS has agreed to use its PicoP display system to assist with a new package guidance application at UPS — one which is designed to increase processing efficiency in package sorting and routing.

UPS is deploying the PicoP at an undisclosed U.S. facility, noting that the projection module will be used in conjunction with UPS scanning systems.

“As the leader in logistics handling high volumes of packages every day, UPS is the ideal company to deploy advanced projection capabilities to improve package handling processes. We are confident that MicroVision’s PicoP display technology will aid in accuracy and increased efficiency,” said Alexander Tokman, MicroVision president and CEO in a press release. MicroVision’s stock is up more than 45 percent in the past year.

Here’s a closer look at how the PicoP technology works.
