obama-headshot“Entrepreneurship is in your DNA.”

That’s a line from President Obama’s first post on Medium, titled “Why I’m Betting on You to Help Shape the New American Economy.”

In the piece, Obama writes that he’s betting on younger folks to pursue new ideas and new enterprises “for decades to come.”

“So here’s something we know for certain: Your rising generation of Americans isn’t just adapting to a 21st-century economy. You’re actively changing it,” writes Obama. “And we know that when we invest in your potential, rather than stack the deck in favor of the folks who are already at the top, our entire economy does better.”

The president tells today’s younger generation that it is “more educated, diverse, and digitally fluent than any before you.”

Obama also cites ways that the government is trying to help young entrepreneurs in this “new economy,” from student loan payment caps to the Affordable Care Act. He also writes that “our tech sector is the envy of the world.”

“And the innovation fueling this economy isn’t just happening in Silicon Valley,” Obama writes. “From Kansas City to Colorado to L.A.’s ‘Silicon Beach,’ entrepreneurs are turning great ideas into great companies.”

Obama notes that America is on pace for the strongest year of job growth since the 1990s and that the unemployment rate has dipped below 6 percent for the first time in six years.

This isn’t the first time Obama has tried to encourage entrepreneurship. One year ago, the president pledged support for global startup efforts and set a goal of helping 500,000 new entrepreneurs around the world with the help of Seattle-based UP Global.
