If you like football and enjoy playing the popular mobile game Temple Run, well, here’s some good news for you.

In a rather unique and peculiar partnership, Temple Run creator Imangi Studios has signed a deal with the NFL Players Association to allow gamers to purchase and play with characters like Russell Wilson and Colin Kaepernick.

templerun1“We are very mindful about choosing the right characters to join the Temple Run universe, and partnering with NFL Players Inc. was a natural fit to include more of the world’s greatest athletes into the game,” Keith Shepherd, co-founder of Imangi Studios, said in a press release. “We had a great time choosing some favorites and think our fans will enjoy the run even more.”

Temple Run 2 players will be able to buy the in-game NFL characters for $0.99 each. Imangi said that new NFL players will be picked each week throughout this fall, with Wilson and Kaepernick being the first two available.

The company is encouraging gamers to rack up points with their favorite players to “help determine who finishes on top.” Imangi was smart to go with one of the NFL’s most potent rivalries — Seattle vs. San Francisco — to kick off the new partnership.

As far as player mock-ups, it looks like Imangi did a decent job — it isn’t Madden 15, but at least they got Kap’s tattoos and forward-facing hat correct.

The Temple Run franchise, which lets explorers run as long as possible through different landscapes to collect points, has been downloaded more than one billion times.
