College football fans in the Northwest will have an easier time sending tweets and uploading pictures from their smartphones this fall.

The University of Oregon announced today that both AT&T and Verizon have installed a Distributed Antenna System (DAS) at Autzen Stadium, just in time for the 2014 college football season. The addition will help bolster connectivity for AT&T and Verizon customers attending games.

Here in Seattle, AT&T has also installed a DAS at the University of Washington’s Husky Stadium, and that will be working in time for the UW’s home opener on Sept. 6. Verizon, meanwhile, will have a portable cell phone tower (COW) at the stadium and should be on the DAS by next season.

UW spokesperson Carter Henderson told GeekWire that AT&T is working with Sprint and T-Mobile to also use the DAS at Husky Stadium.

Last fall, AT&T and Verizon installed a DAS at CenturyLink Field, home of the Seattle Seahawks and Sounders. This season, Verizon is adding a Wi-Fi network and a new cell site at the stadium.
