amazon controllerAmazon’s streaming video box will also serve as a video game console, especially for those who don’t want to buy two devices for the living room.

The video games controller will cost an additional $39.99, in addition to the $99 Amazon Fire TV. Some of the first game developers on board include Disney, Gameloft, Ubisoft, Sega and telltale games.

At least initially, Amazon won’t be competing directly with the hardcore game consoles, like the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4. According to Engadget, the games will cost just under $2, or an average of $1.85, so we can expect lots of game ports from the Kindle Fire tablet.

Over the long-term that could change as Amazon ramps up production of its own games. It recently acquired the games studio Double Helix, which makes hardcore games. Some of the game demonstrations today included Asphalt 8, Minecraft and Sev Zero, a shooter game.

Check out the developer portal, where Amazon is trying really hard to recruit Android app-makers, and is even providing incentives such as 500,000 Amazon Coins, which can be given away inside of your games. That translates to roughly $5,000.
