metrofaxMetroFax, a 16-year-old Bellevue company, has been sold to j2Global for an undisclosed price. The company’s services are used by thousands of customers to eliminate the need of traditional fax machines.

“MetroFax provides Internet faxing from email, Microsoft Office applications, and almost any Windows-based program,” the company writes on its Web site. The service also is available on Android and iPhone.

j2Global is publicly held and consists of business cloud services and digital media. The business cloud services division consists of Internet fax, virtual phone, hosted email, email marketing, online backup, and unified communications solutions. The digital media division consists of publisher Ziff Davis, and includes PCMag.comIGN.comAskMen.comToolbox.com and others. Those properties attract 53 million unique visitors per month.
