barzappYoung-ins who’ve been getting into bars with a fake ID should take notice: There’s an app out now that can verify the authenticity of your card.

Intellicheck Mobilisa, a Port Townsend, Wash. company that provides identity solutions and wireless security systems, just debuted barZapp for iOS.

The app lets you point a smartphone’s camera at the barcode of an ID card and immediately see information like birthday and expiration date. Intellicheck’s patented ID Check software, which is already used by banks and hotels, can parse information from the barcodes and magnetic stripes on driver’s licenses and other forms of ID to check for legitimacy.

“This low-cost solution can not only help to deter underage drinking, but also help protect alcoholic beverage and tobacco product providers from costly fines and potential loss of license from serving underage patrons,” Nelson Ludlow, CEO of Intellicheck Mobilisa, said in a press release.

barZapp, which also keeps track of who was scanned and when, costs $1.99 with a 10-scan per day limit, while a $19.95/month subscription can be purchased for unlimited scans and other features.

Bars and restaurants looking for what could be an easier way to verify the age of their guests can download the app here.
