Amazon.com inked another streaming deal with PBS today, gaining exclusive rights to “Mr. Selfridge,” starring Jeremy Piven. The first season of the show is available on Amazon Prime Instant Video starting Wednesday.
PBS and Amazon.com have already reached similar streaming deals in the past, with the most recent coming this past June to bring past seasons of NOVA, Masterpiece and Ken Burns documentaries, in addition to kids’ programs such as Caillou, Arthur, Daniels Tiger’s Neighborhood, Dinosaur Train and Wild Kratts, to Amazon Prime Instant Video.
That deal followed the news earlier this year that Amazon had purchased rights to become the exclusive home of Downton Abbey.
Amazon is still trying to catch up with Netflix in the streaming media business. Prime Instant Video, available as part of the $79/year Amazon Prime membership program, is a subset of the company’s larger Instant Video streaming catalog, which offers streaming movies and shows for individual purchase and rental.
