The Amazon vs. Netflix streaming video showdown continued today as Amazon announced it purchased exclusive streaming rights to the popular PBS series “Downton Abbey.”

Season three of Downton Abbey will be released exclusively on Prime Instant Video on June 18 and seasons one and two will be found solely on Prime Instant Video later in 2013. Netflix and Hulu Plus currently stream some episodes of Downton Abbey.

Friday afternoon, the Amazon homepage featured a standalone letter from CEO Jeff Bezos highlighting the announcement.

The news comes just a day after the premiere of the original series “House of Cards” produced by Netflix and available only on its streaming service.
