Jack Dorsey has done pretty well for himself, helping create social media giant Twitter and then founding the uber-popular mobile payments solution Square.
So what’s his key to success? Dorsey spoke at the Y Combinator’s Startup School on Sunday, sharing advice and insight from his experiences as a founder and CEO.
One thing Dorsey does everyday is check his “Do,” and “Don’t” list. Here’s what those entail:
The “Do” list:
- Stay present
- Be vulnerable
- Drink only lemon water and red wine
- Six sets of 20 squats and push-ups every day
- Run for 3 miles
- Meditate on this list
- Stand up straight
- Spend 10 minutes with a heavy bag
- Say hello to everyone
- Get 7 hours of sleep
The “Don’t” list:
- Don’t avoid eye contact
- Don’t be late
- Don’t set expectations that you can’t meet
- Don’t eat sugar
- Don’t drink hard liquor or beer during the weekday
It’s a slightly ambitious list, especially for the startuppers that feel the need to work all the time — something that isn’t necessarily needed for success.
Nonetheless, this seems to work for Dorsey. Do you have anything to add to his list?
