Redfin has struck a new partnership with Blu Homes to help those interested in building high-end pre-fab homes find land for the structures. The offering is currently only available in San Francisco, but Redfin and Blu Homes plan to expand the partnership nationwide.

Through the deal, customers can find and buy land via Redfin, and then build and personalize the home through Blu Homes.

Based in Vallejo, California, Blu Homes constructs pre-fabricated homes, structures which can be found in Colorado, New York and California. The company says that demand for the homes has grown, but roughly 80 percent of prospective customers don’t have land to build on.

That’s where Redfin enters. It has more than 100,000 listings for land across the country. After a potential customer contacts Blu Homes, they will be connected with Redfin agent about a possible land purchase. If a site is chose, Blu Homes representatives will make sure that the land is suitable for the structure. The homes are constructed in Blu Homes’ manufacturing facility in Vallejo in about six to eight weeks, with installation taking about two to three weeks.

As part of the deal, customers receive a 15 percent credit on their brokerage fees at closing on their land purchase.

“Bringing together a technology-powered real estate broker like Redfin and a technology-driven homebuilder like Blu has the potential to transform the way consumers think about the home-buying process on a very large scale,” said Adam Wiener, Redfin’s vice president of new business and analytics. “We are focused on a customer-centric model that makes it simpler than ever to find a special piece of land and build a beautiful, green home.”
