Even if you don’t recognize Matt Harding’s name, you’ve probably seen one of his videos. He’s the globetrotting YouTube star behind the site WhereTheHellisMatt.com. His videos, showing him dancing with people in countries around the world, have been viewed millions upon millions of times.

Matt is our guest this week on the GeekWire radio show and podcast. He tells the story of his unlikely climb to online fame, talks about how his approach has evolved, explains how YouTube and the Internet have changed since he started, and tells us a bit about the making of his latest video, released in June.

We had so much fun talking with Matt that we kept him around for some overtime bonus content on this podcast version of the show. Listen after the closing music to hear Matt talk about his favorite apps, how he uses technology on his trips, and his decision to blur out some of the people in his latest video, for their own safety.

Here’s that video in case you missed it …

The interview with Matt starts around 12:30, following our weekly news roundup. Topics discussed this week include a plan to bring pay-by-app parking to Seattle; Microsoft’s decision to get rid of the Hotmail brand in favor of the new Outlook.com; Microsoft’s completion of Windows 8; and the launch of the new “Decide Score” product ranking feature from Seattle startup Decide.

App of the Week: iExit for iPhone and Android.

Name that Tech Tune: Chance to win a ticket to GeekGirlCon. (Last week’s answer and winner.)
