Well, maybe that goofy stunt at Seattle’s Space Needle actually paid off. Rovio today said via Twitter that its latest title, Angry Birds Space, achieved 10 million downloads in its first three days of sales.

That’s a pretty amazing accomplishment, with Dean Takahashi at VentureBeat saying the milestone moved the mobile game business into the “stratosphere of bona fide entertainment blockbusters.” Takahashi also estimated that the game brought in $10 million at a minimum, given the various price points for the game across various platforms. And he notes that doesn’t come close to the Hollywood blockbuster, The Hunger Games, which took in about $155 million over the weekend.

As was well documented by GeekWire’s Todd Bishop, Rovio last week hung an Angry Bird from a giant slingshot off the Space Needle. It was one of many promotions rolled out worldwide by the mobile game maker over the past few days.

Angry Birds space costs 99 cents on iOS, and $6 for Windows PCs.

Here’s a look at the new mobile gaming sensation.
