Jimmy Fallon, left, and Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime

Gaming nerds spent Saturday night waiting in lines across the country in order to gobble up Nintendo’s new 3DS, which went on sale at 12:01 a.m. on Sunday. The $249 handheld gaming device — touted as the first 3D portable gaming system — already has one big fan. Comedian Jimmy Fallon loves it, telling Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime in a recent appearance that the experience is simply “insane.”

The video clip (below) is classic, as Fils-Aime takes aim at Fallon’s avatar with some well-timed tennis balls in the game Face Raiders.

“This is mind-blowingly awesome,” said Fallon, who has been known to fall in love with gaming devices from Seattle area companies.

You still may have a chance to buy one of the gadgets. About 800 GameStop locations were set to open at 12:01 a.m. on Sunday, with extended hours all day. (I called a couple stores in the Seattle area to check on the status, but no one answered, so I guess you are on your own if you want to get one right now. Or, they are just too busy selling the latest hot-gadget).

There doesn’t appear to be quite as much buzz about the 3DS as Apple’s recent release of the iPad 2. But folks on Twitter are still feeling jazzed.
