1260 Mercer

Amazon.com’s appetite for office space in downtown Seattle is truly astounding. For the second time this week, word has emerged that the fast-growing online retailer has signed a big lease.

This time, Amazon.com has gobbled up 106,000 square feet at the 1260 Mercer Building in Seattle’s South Lake Union neighborhood. Conveniently located next door to the company’s budding new headquarters, Amazon.com plans to occupy the former Onvia headquarters early next year.

Earlier this week, The Seattle Times reported that Amazon.com was taking over 14 floors in the West 8th building at 8th and Westlake avenues in downtown Seattle.

Amazon’s interest in both office buildings was previously reported by GeekWire.

“We are delighted to work with one of Seattle’s most dynamic companies, Amazon.com, at 1260 Mercer,” said property owner Bruce Blume.

A mixed-use project known as Yale Campus North, the facility includes office, retail and multifamily residences.

Amazon.com added more than 8,000 employees during the third quarter, and its employment now stands at more than 50,000 people. The company moved from its longtime home on Seattle’s Beacon Hill to South Lake Union earlier this year.
