Updates to Amazon’s Alexa virtual assistant are coming in thick and fast, with Jeopardy! showing up on the Echo smart speaker last week and the ability to start your car coming in the future. This week, Amazon announced a couple entertainment-related abilities coming to the Echo.

With the Super Bowl coming up soon, Alexa’s sports update adds to her ability to tell you live sports scores by filling you in on other sports stories you may be interested in. By enabling “Sports Update” in the Alexa app, you can get personalized updates on just the teams and sports you’re interested in. It’s kind of like the news-focused Flash Briefing for sports.

The update also brings movie showtimes and other info to Alexa’s knowledge base. With questions like “What movies are playing?” or “Can you tell me about the movie ‘The Revenant’?” you can get details about local showtimes, short synopses and the movie’s stars right from the Echo.

With rumors that a smaller, portable Amazon Echo may be coming soon, Alexa’s expanded capabilities make it seem like more and more of a competitor with smartphone-based AI assistants like Siri and Cortana.
