In a surprise move, Microsoft today unveiled new mobile Halo games for Apple’s platform, in addition to Windows 8, Windows Phone 8, and Steam.
The Redmond giant on Thursday released Halo: Spartan Strike for the iPad and iPhone. Microsoft planned to make the $5.99 top-down shooter available exclusively on Windows platforms, so this is certainly a bit unexpected.

Microsoft also debuted Halo: Spartan Assault for the iPad and iPhone. The game was originally released for Windows in 2013 and is also available on Xbox One and Xbox 360. You can also purchase a $9.99 bundle for iOS that includes both games, which are developed by Vanguard Games and 343 Industries.
The company does not have plans to develop an Android version of the Halo mobile games.
This is another example of a broader shift in Microsoft’s competitive strategy as it makes its products available on multiple platforms.
