Unless you’re living under a rock, you probably have some awareness that the big Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao fight is on tomorrow.

What you probably don’t know is that this fight is so big that the power company in the Philippines is preparing to offset a potential power crash. The Palawan Electric Cooperative, or PALECO, has asked people to unplug their refrigerators and other power-sucking appliances before the big fight.

Courtesy of Sporting News via Inquirer.net: “On fight night, PALECO could be 2 megawatts short, which could induce a brownout in its service areas that could last three to four hours.”

Customers are also asked to also refrain from using their air conditioners, washing machines and irons. Now, to put that into perspective, think about where the actual fight is being held — Las Vegas — the poster city for atrocious energy consumption.

Sounds like someone, or a few thousand people, could use a Tesla battery.
