Last year's live video event
Last year’s live video event for Sony’s Action Cam was an early test of the concept for Amazon.

A now-deleted job posting from Amazon appears to have spilled the beans on a new video unit for the company. The listing was calling for a producer for a daily live show.

“Amazon is forming a new business initiative to leverage video as a medium to drive product sales on Amazon,” the deleted posting on SimplyHired.com read. “We are looking for a seasoned television producer to help us produce and run a daily live show.”

The listing was spotted by USA Today and appeared on SimplyHired.com, as well as LinkedIn and Amazon’s job page. The listing said the new hire would join an existing team, which “functions as a start-up within Amazon.” The video unit will initially target fashion and beauty items, like those in the Amazon Fashion, Shopbop and MyHabit sections.

Amazon’s acquisition of live game-streaming company Twitch for nearly $1 billion last year could also help the company move in this direction.

This won’t be the first time Amazon has experimented with live video. As reported by GeekWire at the time, a live video segment promoting Sony’s Action Cam took over Amazon’s camera product page for a short time last year. That experiment came off like a late-night shopping channel pitch, but a more seasoned producer might be able to draw a larger audience to the retail giant’s offerings.
