Rhapsody, the Seattle-based music streaming service that’s battling the likes of Apple, Spotify and Pandora for the eardrums of consumers, has named Soundwall co-founder and former SignalSoft CEO David Hose as interim CEO.

Rhapsody had been operating without a CEO for more than a year, and the appointment of Hose and pledge to find a permanent boss indicates that the company is looking to bolster efforts.

“Over the next year, we see an opportunity to bring our music services — Rhapsody and Napster — to an even wider audience of music lovers around the world,” the company said in a statement. “We’re excited to have David Hose join our team, and guide us in aggressively pursuing this opportunity and reinforcing Rhapsody’s position as the world’s second-largest player in subscription music.”

The company added that 2014 was the year that subscription music “finally went mainstream.”

Rhapsody’s revenues grew by 22 percent during the second quarter, jumping to $42.5 million.  However, its net loss jumped to $4.7 million. RealNetworks spun off Rhapsody into a separate company in 2010, and last year the music streaming company cut 15 percent of its workforce as president Jon Irwin departed.
