Who’s up for some iPad shopping? Today, Apple announced the iPad Air 2, a 6.1 millimeter-thick tablet, which is – for the moment – the thinnest tablet in the world.

The thickness savings come from a new screen bonding technique that includes an anti-reflective coating that reduces glare by 56 percent over its predecessor. It’s more than just a pretty face: the iPad Air 2 sports a new A8X processor that’s even more powerful than the chips powering the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. Like the new iPhones, it also sports a M8 motion co-processor that will track users’ motion.

It allows for 1080p video capture and a variety of other features including burst mode shooting, slow-motion video, and time-lapse support.

As expected, the new tablet includes a Touch ID fingerprint sensor, that will allow users to unlock their iPads with a fingerprint, like they would on an iPhone 5S or 6. That also unlocks support for Apple Pay to make online purchases. Users won’t be able to check out in a physical retail store with their big tablet, but they will be able to make their e-commerce purchases with a touch of their fingerprint.

The iPad Mini also got an update to the iPad Mini 3, which also includes a Touch ID sensor like its larger sibling.

The announcement came with a little barb at the competition, too. Apple CEO Tim Cook said that the company sold 70 million iPad units through the third quarter of this year, well ahead of the total sales of the largest PC manufacturers in the world. It’s an attempt by the CEO to put Apple’s tablet sales in context, especially in light of projections that put overall tablet sales flat over the next 5 years.

iPad Air 2 will be available starting at $499 for a 16 GB model, with the 64 GB model costing $599, and 128 GB for $699. The iPad Mini 3 will start at $399, with models following the same pricing for the iPad Air. Pre-orders open tomorrow, and will begin shipping next week.

In addition to the pricing for new models, Apple has re-shuffled its entire tablet pricing scheme, placing the old iPad Air at $399, dropping the iPad Mini 2 to $299 and making the iPad Mini its cheapest tablet ever at $249.
