whatsappWhatsApp might not be as widely known as Twitter, but it is definitely just as popular in terms of users.

At Nokia World today, the mobile messaging startup announced that it has passed 350 million active monthly users — up 50 million from August. It’s interesting to compare that stat to Twitter, which has 230 million active monthly users.

WhatsApp CEO Jan Koum made the announcement today while discussing his company’s partnership with Nokia. The phone maker’s three new Asha devices will all come built-in with WhatsApp functionality. Koum also added that WhatsApp is seeing 250,000 new sign-ups from Nokia devices every day.

Of course, the messaging service isn’t quite on Facebook’s level yet. But it does have more monthly users than Instagram, which has 150 million on its platform.
