It was pretty cool learning about Brooke Martin, the 13-year-old from Spokane who invented an Internet-enabled device powered by a Raspberry Pi computer that allows dog owners to video chat with their pups and automatically deliver a dog treat from afar.
Now, Martin is receiving some accolades for her sweet invention, the iCPooch. The young entrepreneur was named first runner-up at the 3M/Discovery Young Scientist Challenge, one of the nation’s top competitive school science events.
Martin pitched the concept for iCPooch at a Startup Weekend event in Spokane last year. The company has a full-time CEO — tech industry vet James Pelland — and has already filed for patents and raised a bit of cash.
iCPooch’s recent Kickstarter campaign was looking to raise $75,000 but fell short after raising $23,491. Learn more about the backstory of iCPooch here, and check out the video below to see Martin’s pitch that qualified her for the 3M/Discovery Young competition.
