Daft Punk fans may enjoy Sony’s latest Playstation 4 promo.
In “The Official PS4 Unboxing Video,” Sony parodies the video for Daft Punk’s unboxing of its most recent album, Random Access Memories.
Complete with a nearly-identical dark underground sci-fi control room, flashing lights and another mystery man (Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida), the advertisement parodies Daft Punk’s video for a creative spin on your ordinary unboxing video.
It’s worth noting that Daft Punk is under Columbia Records, a subsidiary of Sony Music Entertainment — so no copyright infringements at play here.
Last month, Sony took us down memory lane with a fun commercial recounting each generation of PlayStation consoles. Both Sony and Microsoft have poured in millions of marketing dollars over the past few months in an effort to garner attention to their respective next generation consoles. The PS4 hits shelves this Friday, Nov. 15, while the Xbox One arrives exactly one week after that.
