azureMicrosoft announced today that it has acquired Apiphany, an API management company that helps developers securely expose APIs to developers that are looking to use them.

Apiphany, which is based in Washington, D.C., brings with it a list of clients that includes the Washington Post, which is now owned by Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos. The company’s website has been replaced with a splash screen that directs further queries to the API Management team at Microsoft.

Microsoft says that it plans to roll Apiphany’s capabilities into its Windows Azure cloud computing platform.

“We look forward to surfacing API management services within Windows Azure and providing our customers with the technology they need to grow their API ecosystem very soon,” Windows Azure Business and Marketing General Manager Stephen Martin said in a post to the Windows Azure team blog.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed in the announcement.
