instagram-logoJust as Twitter revealed its IPO Thursday afternoon, Facebook-owned Instagram thought it’d be a nice time to drop a little news of its own.

In short, advertisements are coming to your Instagram feeds. As a “growing company,” Instagram penned a blog post today detailing its plans for ads that will be in the form of “a small number of beautiful, high-quality photos and videos from a handful of brands that are already great members of the Instagram community.” Those advertisements will come from brands you do not follow.

Similar to Facebook, users will be able to hide ads that aren’t relevant to them and provide feedback to explain why. Instagram also reminded users that their pictures belong to them.

“As always, you own your own photos and videos,” the company wrote. “The introduction of advertising won’t change this.”

Instagram has more than 150 million users.
