We love to throw big parties, and we especially love ping-pong, the national pastime of the technology industry. We’ve engaged in some epic matches over the years, smacking a few backhand winners as a way to de-stress from the daily grind of tech blogging.
Based on what we’ve seen around Seattle tech offices — where ping-pong tables often hold center stage (next to the kegerator) — geeks love ping-pong too.
That’s why we’re so excited to announce our next big event, the GeekWire Summer Bash, set for June 21 at the Showbox SODO in Seattle, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. — the perfect kickoff for the summer season in the city.
It’s a party, first and foremost, and we’re expecting hundreds of people to attend, with plenty of food and drink, and great networking with other members of the tech community. General attendance tickets are available here.
But we’ll also be taking advantage of the venue’s ample space for a ping-pong tournament that will crown the champions of the Seattle region’s tech community in intermediate and expert brackets. There are some awesome players in the tech industry, from the wicked spins of Silicon Valley Bank’s Minh Le to the Roger Federer-like consistency of Madrona’s Greg Gottesman. (For the record, we’ve lost to both).
Limited slots are available, so make sure to sign up to compete here today.
If ping-pong ain’t your thing, we’ll also be running another tech-industry favorite: a two-on-two foosball tournament. Find a partner and sign yourself up here. Entry fees for all of the tournaments also include full access to the party.
We’re encouraging the region’s startups and product groups to send their best players to compete, and come out to cheer them on. Limited slots are available in each bracket, so be sure to sign up soon.
Other highlights of the night will include the return of GeekBall, the signature activity from our GeekWire launch event last year. This oversized table mixes pool and soccer, letting contestants stand on the surface and kick soccer balls into the pockets. Attendees will be able to play pickup GeekBall games all night to experience this unique and fun sport.
Stay tuned for more details on special guests, prizes and activities in the weeks ahead. It’s going to be a blast, and we’re looking forward to seeing you there.
