Amazon is trying to make the experience of reading children’s books and comic books on a computer or device more like the original, or maybe a little better in some cases.
The company this morning updated its Kindle apps for iPad, Android and web browsers to add new features for children’s books, comic books and graphic novels, including fixed layouts and a popup feature that magnifies text for reading on screens of different sizes.
The updates include the Kindle Panel View technology for showing artwork in comics and graphic novels in a panel-by-panel progression. More than 1,000 children’s books are now available in color on Kindle for Android, iPad and the Kindle Cloud Reader web app, in addition to the company’s Kindle Fire tablet.
Other changes include new library search features for iPad, and smaller margins around the edge of the page. The versions of the software for Android tablets and Kindle Cloud reader also now offer a two-page view for wide screens.
