Al Gore

Former Vice President Al Gore, an Apple board member and venture capitalist, discussed at length his relationship with Apple co-founder Steve Jobs in an interview with Walt Mossberg of The Wall Street Journal at the AsiaD conference in Hong Kong today.

Gore expressed confidence that Apple’s executive team will continue to fire on all cylinders.

“There’s no one like Steve Jobs. He’s the kind of guy who comes along every 250 years,” said Gore. “He was totally unique.”

Even with the loss of Jobs, Gore noted that every single one of the top execs at Apple could be the CEO of a major corporation.

“Their loyalty to the company, I think, is quite deep, and to one another. It is a great feeling at Apple,” he said.

In other remarks at the conference, Gore also said that the Justice Department’s inquiry into the AT&T-T-Mobile acquisition could crater the deal.

“Both companies will try to put it back together, but they’d be well advised to start looking at other strategies,” according to a report in This is my Next.

Here are Peter Kafka’s full notes from the Gore chat in which the former vice president discusses everything from the changing face of journalism to the importance of innovation in the U.S. economy to the market for mobile phones.
