Career Development Workshop: Preparing Scientists for Industry Careers
A free two-day “How to Land Your First Job” bootcamp presented by SciPhD for scientists moving into industry, hosted and underwritten by Bristol Myers Squibb. It is aimed at graduate students and doctoral candidates, postdoctoral fellows, recent PhD graduates and experienced scientists making the transition to industry roles.
The format is hands-on practice, simulations and case studies rather than lecture-style career programming. Modules cover entrepreneurial thinking and commercialization, the business of science and its 24 core professional competencies, communications for scientists, networking, team leadership, project management, behavioral-based interviews and negotiations.
Day one runs 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and closes with a Bristol Myers Squibb networking reception from 5 to 6 p.m. Day two covers behavioral interviews, leadership, project management and negotiations. Participants get access to a virtual career coach, a network of industry professionals and a certificate of completion, and network with sponsor company representatives throughout.
Free to attend, but registration is required to receive course materials.
