— Microsoft executive Charlie Bell joined the board of directors of customer engagement software giant Twilio.

Bell is executive VP of security, compliance identity and management at Microsoft, and is a member of the company’s senior leadership team. He was previously senior VP of Amazon Web Services. Bell also had decade-long stint as a space shuttle flight engineer in the ’80s.

Current Twilio board member Richard Dalzell, a former Amazon vice president, notified the board he will not stand for re-election in 2023.

— Longtime marketing executive Jay Wampold joined FasterBetter, a startup developing tools to handle email traffic, as chief marketing officer and co-founder.

Wampold was previously chief marketing officer at Seattle startups Pulumi and Commerce IQ, and VP of marketing at Cloudability, which was acquired by Apptio. He also was VP of marketing at Qumulo, director of product marketing at Amazon Web Services, and held leadership roles at EMC Isilon, SS+K and RealNetworks.

FasterBetter is building AI tools for email that “optimize for focus and flow, not frequency,” said Wampold in a LinkedIn post. The startup is led by co-founder and CEO Mat Ellis, an entrepreneur and investor who founded Portland company Cloudability.

Other key personnel changes across the Pacific Northwest tech industry:

  • Jeff MacDuff, previously a senior software development manager at Amazon, joined grant management software startup Submittable as VP of engineering.
  • Grace Liu is now chief financial officer of Tango, which offers gift card services to companies for their reward and incentive programs. Liu was previously head of finance for Afterpay.
  • Global cloud communications company Sinch, which has about 30 employees in Seattle, hired former Lumen Technologies executive Laurinda Pang as CEO.
