Amazon will hold its 2023 Prime Day sales event on Tuesday, July 11, and Wednesday, July 12, the Seattle-based e-commerce giant announced tonight.

The company will introduce a new invite-only Prime Days deals program, giving Prime members the ability to request invitations in advance to purchase products that are expected to sell out during the Prime Day event.

“Members who are selected will be notified during Prime Day with instructions on how to purchase the item at the exclusive deal price,” the company said in a news release announcing its 2023 Prime Day plans.

Also for the first time, Prime Day deals will extend to participating third-party sites in the Buy with Prime program. Launched last year, Buy with Prime lets Prime members buy items on non-Amazon sites just as they would on Amazon.com, with benefits including streamlined checkout and free delivery.

Prime Day dates are closely watched by online shoppers as well as Amazon’s vendors, partners, third-party sellers, and the company’s legions of warehouse employees tasked with fulfilling a spike in orders. Amazon’s retail rivals also pay close attention, frequently launching their own sales events around the same time.

It’s the second straight year that Prime Day will be held on the second Tuesday and Wednesday of July, suggesting that the company is settling into a more predictable pattern after the pandemic threw a wrench into the schedule.

For Amazon investors, the timing is notable because it means Prime Day revenue will be included in the company’s third quarter results. Amazon said the 2022 event was “the biggest Prime Day event in history,” with more than 300 million items purchased worldwide, and total savings of $1.7 billion by Prime members.

Since its debut in 2015, Prime Day has become one of the most important annual events for the company, effectively creating a second peak season, six or seven months after the holiday shopping rush.

Prime Day typically doubles as a litmus test for the broader economy, with deal-hunting and purchasing patterns often reflecting the collective mood of consumers, and trends in discretionary spending.

Amazon says the event will be held in these countries this year: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Egypt, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Mexico, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, the U.S., and the UK.

The event will be held in India “later this summer,” according to the company.
