Amazon is cutting an unspecified number of positions in its music division in the latest layoffs to hit the tech giant as it looks for ways to trim costs.

  • Bloomberg reported the news Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter, who said that targeted jobs are on Amazon Music’s editorial and audio content team.
  • “Like many businesses, we have been closely monitoring our organizational needs and prioritizing what matters most to customers and the long-term health of our businesses,” an Amazon spokesperson said in a statement to GeekWire. “As a result, some roles have been eliminated on the Amazon Music team. We will continue to invest in Amazon Music, and spend our resources on the products and services that matter most to customers, creators, and artists.”
  • Last month, Amazon pulled the plug on Amp, the audio app it launched last year to let users DJ their own live radio shows complete with a catalog of millions of licensed songs and the ability to engage with callers. The company also just closed its Amazon Style physical clothing stores.
  • Earlier this year, Amazon cut 27,000 corporate and tech jobs in its largest-ever round of layoffs.
