Ankur Sinha, who spent the past two years as an engineering director at Google, joined remittance company Remitly as its chief technology officer.

Sinha, based in Seattle, most recently oversaw Google Cloud’s commerce capabilities. He also previously spent 12 years at Microsoft in roles including principal software engineering manager and senior director.

Remitly went public in September. Founded in 2011, the company offers a mobile platform for sending money internationally, used heavily by immigrants and their families.

“As a first generation immigrant, I feel directly connected to the work Remitly is doing and have experienced some of the challenges that we’re working to solve for our customers,” Sinha told GeekWire.

Sinha said lessons in leadership, agility and scale he picked up at Google and Microsoft “will help us continue to deliver transformative products to immigrants.”

Karim Meghji, who became CTO in October 2020 and joined Remitly in 2016, will transition into an executive advisory role at the end of February.
