Expedia Group is blocking the ability to book travel into or out of Russia in a response to that country’s invasion of neighboring Ukraine.
“In response to recent acts and government-imposed sanctions weighed against Russia, we have ceased the sale of travel into and out of Russia,” the Seattle-based travel giant said in a statement provided to GeekWire. “We are saddened by what continues to unfold in Ukraine and will continue to do what we can to support impacted travelers, partners, and our team members with families and friends in the affected areas.”
The travel industry news website Skift said that the policy affects Expedia-owned vacation rental platform Vrbo as well.
As Skift noted, attempts to book travel to Moscow on Expedia.com only returned results for Moscow, Idaho, and Moscow, Pa.
The website’s report had more details on how other travel companies are reacting to the Russian invasion.
