Microsoft will combine its Global Sales and Marketing Organization and Worldwide Commercial Business under Judson Althoff, further positioning the eight-year Microsoft executive as a key leader under CEO Satya Nadella.

In an email to employees, obtained by GeekWire, Nadella cited Althoff’s “unique blend of technical and business acumen” for solidifying Microsoft’s relationships with some of the world’s largest companies as its customers and partners.

Jean-Philippe Courtois

Nadella made the announcement along with news of a career transition for Jean-Philippe Courtois, a 37-year veteran of Microsoft who is currently president of the company’s Global Sales, Marketing & Operations group. Courtois will split his time between Microsoft and other interests, including his Live for Good Foundation.

The changes will be effective July 1, the beginning of Microsoft’s fiscal year.

Courtois’ new title will be president, National Transformation Partnerships, working with the company’s country leaders on projects including Microsoft data center expansions, cloud business and artificial intelligence technologies, according to Nadella’s email.

Among other roles, Cortois previously served for years as the president of Microsoft International. He joined the company in 1984 as a partner sales representative.
