The puck has dropped and the first season of Seattle Kraken hockey is in full swing. Now the team is going to drop some NFTs to further engage with fans using technology.

The Kraken and Climate Pledge Arena are partnering with Orange Comet, a Los Angeles-based non-fungible token and blockchain experience company, the team announced Monday.

The multi-year partnership officially kicks off Dec. 20 with the drop of a limited edition NFT collection comprised of seven designs “capturing the essence of the Kraken brand,” according to a news release. There will also be real-world opportunities for fans to win tickets, behind-the-scenes experiences and autographed Kraken jerseys.

The NFTs will be available for purchase at a variety of price points starting at $50. Fans can register on the Orange Comet site to make an account.

The NHL’s 32nd franchise began play in October and opened Climate Pledge Arena to much fanfare, with record-breaking season ticket and merchandise sales. The arena, with naming rights purchased by Amazon includes a number of high-tech touches from the tech giant and others, including cashierless food and drink stores and more.

“The Seattle Kraken and Climate Pledge Arena have been innovating since day one and take pride in the different ways we connect with our fans,” Todd Humphrey, SVP of Digital and Fan Experience for the team, said in a statement. “Being able to call a tech forward city like Seattle home makes partnering with Orange Comet for this Kraken NFT drop an easy choice. We are so excited to see these one-of-a-kind items come to life as another way fans can be a part of this historic inaugural season.”

NFTs allow fans to secure unique ownership of artwork, videos, photos, and other digital content on the blockchain. Orange Comet says it uses an eco-friendly blockchain called Avalanche. Climate Pledge Arena has been billed as the world’s first net-zero carbon certified arena in the world.

To support sustainability goals, the Kraken and Climate Pledge will donate a portion of proceeds to One Roof Foundation’s environmental justice pillar to support communities disproportionately impacted by climate change

The Seattle Seahawks minted 125 commemorative NFT tickets to get in on the crypto game. The Seattle Mariners’ home stadium T-Mobile Park offered up a limited edition NFT artwork of the ballpark.
